A New Brain
January 13 - January 29 2012     [ Peformance Schedule ]
How do you write a musical about brain surgery? With humor, wit and compassion; that’s how. This quirky, autobiographical work by award-winning composer William Finn (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) is nothing short of wonderful. At the center of the action is Gordon, a talented but neurotic would-be Broadway composer forced to make a living writing what he considers to be inconsequential ditties for a children's TV show. When he finds himself in the hospital facing a life-threatening condition, he begins to re-evaluate life, love, mortality and the healing power of art. Throughout his ordeal Gordon learns to appreciate life’s precious moments and finds new inspiration to compose the songs he wants to write. Don’t be frightened off by the subject matter; in no way is this General Hospital, the Musical! MATURE THEMES, LANGUAGE

Brighton Beach Memoirs

Coming of age is never easy, but it can be very funny. Brighton Beach Memoirs, the first installment in Neil Simon’s semi-autobiographical trilogy, introduces us to Eugene Morris Jerome, the playwright’s 14 year-old alter ego. It’s 1937. The country is in the midst of the great depression, Europe is teetering on the brink of war and the young writer is living with his extended family in a crowded, middle-class home in Brooklyn, New York. Despite all that’s going on around him, all Eugene can think about is playing baseball for the New York Yankees... and girls. This heartwarming comedy serves as a wonderfully nostalgic reminder of what it was like to grow up in a tight-knit, loving family during the most difficult of times.

“Simultaneously poignant and funny. The characters are fully dimensional, believable... An outstanding show...” – Variety
