The sudden deaths of her father and brother have left the Countess Olivia, an independent and powerful woman, especially attractive to Duke Orsino, who, as the play begins, is already pursuing her. With the arrival of the well-born twins Viola and Sebastian, the love of power gives way to the power of love. The twins have been shipwrecked, and each thinks the other has drowned. Without protection, Viola chooses to disguise herself as a page, call herself Cesario, and enter into the service of Orsino. Orsino and Olivia become increasingly obsessed with Cesario. Olivia falls in love with him and Orsino cannot be out of his company. These tangled relationships provide many humorous moments before they are wonderfully untangled.

IS HE DEAD?
January 29 - February 13 2010     [ Peformance Schedule ]
In this newly discovered comedy by Mark Twain, the original master of American humor dishes out a sly critique of the art world with acerbic wit and social commentary. Richly intermingling elements of burlesque, farce, and social satire, Is He Dead? centers on a group of poor artists in Barbizon, France, who stage the death of a friend to drive up the price of his paintings. Of course, it's difficult to revel in public adulation from the grave, so the indebted artist poses as his imaginary twin sister in order to enjoy his own fame and fortune. For the antics to succeed, the artists must hatch some hilarious schemes, including a full-scale fake funeral. Adapted by David Ives, this fast-paced comedic romp will have you laughing loud enough to wake the dead.

"An elaborate madcap comedy that
registers high on the mirth meter."
– Variety

VOICE OF GOOD HOPE
February 19 - March 6 2010     [ Peformance Schedule ]
This compelling play explores the remarkable life of Barbara Jordan, who in 1972 became the first black woman from the Deep South to be elected to the United States House of Representatives. During the 1974 House Judiciary Committee's deliberations on the impeachment of Richard Nixon, Jordan's calm and reasonable defense of the Constitution galvanized her reputation as a politician who could cross party lines and reach out to an American public in need of a steady voice. This is the heartfelt story of one woman who rose, against all odds, to become one of this country's most powerful orators, one of its most astute politicians, one of its greatest teachers and, ultimately, one of its most private citizens.

"...forged in the crucible of the civil-rights struggle but timeless in its message." – New York Times

HOME ON THE MORNIN' TRAIN
April 30 - May 8 2010     [ Peformance Schedule ]
Two historically turbulent times, separated by 100 years and thousands of miles, are beautifully interwoven in this inspirational story of hope and connection.

The year is 1939, Berlin, Germany. Rifka and her little brother Aaron are sent into hiding with the Westemeiers, a rural German family, in the hopes of escaping Nazi persecution. While waiting for a boat that will take them to the safety of Denmark, Rifka reads from a book sent by relatives in America. It is a first-person account of a runaway teenage slave named Brave Mary who escaped an Alabama plantation in the 1830's. As Brave Mary's escape unfolds before them and they are introduced to the history of slavery in the United States, the Jewish children realize that those who long for freedom travel the same road.

JEKYLL & HYDE, THE MUSICAL
May 14 - May 29 2010     [ Peformance Schedule ]
A true musical theatre phenomenon, this fantastic show attracted legions of loyal fans even before it began its smash-hit Broadway run. Convinced the cure for his father's mental illness lies in the separation of man's good and evil natures, Dr. Henry Jekyll unwittingly unleashes his own dark side, wreaking havoc in the streets of late 19th century London as the savage, maniacal Edward Hyde. Complete with lavish costumes, amazing special effects and a lush, romantic score that features the soaring ballads Someone Like You and This is the Moment, Jekyll & Hyde is pure pulse-pounding theatre.

Due to the intensity of some scenes, this production may not be appropriate for younger members of the family.

"Lush and appealing... genuinely moving." – New York Daily News
